'Star Wars' Celebrity :10 Things You May Not Have Known About Prince

While Prince had been famous for nearly four decades, there was more than a little of an air of mystery around him.

Sure, the 5-foot-2 “Purple Rain” singer was known for his big hair, heels, style, and talent, but there was a reason why he lived behind the gates of Paisley Park, the sprawling estate featuring a 65,000-square-foot studio complex in the Minneapolis suburb of Chanhassen. And why events held there carried a strict no-cellphone policy. Even reporters who interviewed him there were instructed not to bring a camera, mobile phone, or tape recorder.

Despite his stringent rules, tidbits about the supersecret star’s life have trickled out — and they’re as incredible as his musical talent was. Here we rounded up some of the most interesting little-known facts about the Artist Once Again Known as Prince, and we hope you enjoy reading them as you try to digest his sudden and sad passing…

1. His name really was Prince. Prince Rogers Nelson to be exact. Prince’s dad was a jazz pianist and songwriter who went by the stage name Prince Rogers. He gave the name to his son “because I wanted him to do everything I wanted to do,” he said, according to the 2003 book Possessed: The Rise and Fall of Prince.

2. He went door-to-door for the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Prince was introduced to the religion by the musician Larry Graham. In 2008, the “1999” singer told the New Yorker he attended meetings at a local Kingdom Hall and, like his fellow witnesses, he went door-to-door now and then to proselytize. “Sometimes people act surprised, but mostly they’re really cool about it,” he said. 

3. He was a Ping-Pong ace. In 2014, the Associated Press reported that a Ping-Pong table was a centerpiece outside the recording studios. He’s described as a “pretty deft player.” His footwear for the game? “White shoes with acrylic heels lighting up blue with every move.” Of course.

4. He also had game: While he was barely over 5 feet tall, he was a baller. In an episode of Chappelle’s Show, Charlie Murphy talked about partying with Prince in the ’80s. The superstar challenged him to a pickup game of basketball. “This cat could ball,” said Murphy, who noted that he played in a “Zorro-type outfit.”

5. He would wear platform flip-flops with socks and yoga pants: “It’s perhaps worth noting that [his feet] are wearing a pair of flip-flops with huge platform soles teamed with socks,” a writer from The Guardian noted in 2015. “The socks and flip-flops are white, as is the rest of his outfit.” It’s a style that he long appreciated. In his 2008 New Yorker profile, it said, “Prince padded into the kitchen, a small 50-year-old man in yoga pants and a big sweater, wearing platform flip-flops over white socks, like a geisha.”

'Star Wars' Celebrity : ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Maisie Williams: People Are Either Feminist or Sexist

 The misunderstood “feminist” label has caused controversy for decades, and people continue to distance themselves from this apparently very scary word. Finally, Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams, the 18-year-old who plays the headstrong Arya Stark in the HBO drama, has come up with an easy solution for determining whether someone is … you know.

“I got asked in one of my first interviews: ‘Is Arya a feminist?’ I didn’t even know what a feminist was,” Williams told Entertainment Weekly. "And then someone explained it to me.“

As the reporter noted, the British actress was quite young at the time. The show premiered two days after she turned 13.

"And I remember thinking, 'Isn’t that just like everyone?’ And then I realized everyone is not a feminist, unfortunately," Williams continued. "But I also feel like we should stop calling feminists 'feminists’ and just start calling people who aren’t feminist 'sexist’ — and then everyone else is just a human. You are either a normal person or a sexist."

Well, that was easy.

Williams went on to speak about the way people are quick to pile on when anyone makes a mistake or does something with which others don’t agree. For instance, some viewers have protested the violence directed against women on her show. She countered that men and animals also are treated badly.

"I think it’s upsetting that so many people have found it upsetting,” Williams said. “But I find a lot of things upsetting to watch. I get upset when animals get slaughtered. And lots of people are like, 'But this is worse than that’ — and I never understood that. I think everybody’s allowed to be upset about what they’re upset by. And once people are angry about something, you start worrying about saying the right thing instead of just saying what you mean. It’s very easy to have an opinion. Everyone’s got one. But it’s very difficult to speak up about difficult subjects when people are angry with you. People say: 'Why don’t you speak up?’ [and I’m thinking], 'Because you all got pitchforks and you’re ready to kill us!’ It’s scary if you say something wrong."

The fear is sometimes enough to keep her silent.

"Maybe I just have to get a backbone,” she mused. “I’m going to say this in this interview, but I wouldn’t say it with anyone else: I sometimes really worry about speaking up about feminist subjects out of fear of being bashed by women on social media. And there’s something not right there. Yeah, sometimes it’s men too. But there are women who are just nasty. I’m trying to do the best I can. I got a voice. I believe in equality and I know I have more power than the average person to reach people."

Williams did notably speak out about feminism in a December 2014 profile in The Guardian, where she referred to Emma Watson’s UN speech about gender equality as being a kind of "first-world feminism.”

“A lot of what Emma Watson spoke about, I just think, 'That doesn’t bother me,’” Williams told the newspaper. “I know things aren’t perfect for women in the U.K. and in America, but there are women in the rest of the world who have it far worse.”

The pregnancy came as a surprise for the couple who are “very excited” and are “continuing to work on their marriage and are living together again,” another source said.

The New Girl star filed for divorce in August after five years of marriage and 11 years together.

Reps for both stars have not commented.

The couple, who are already parents to Noah, 3½, and Bodhi, 2, are back together and while Megan has been busy working on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Brian has stayed with their boys.

“They both love being parents,” adds the source.

The exes have remained amicable since announcing their split and have often been spotted together with their two children and have also been seen running errands together without the kids.

Lowry attended the show, which airs Sunday night, in all black, with two thigh-high splits and a deep (deep) neckline. In January, she and fellow Teen Mom stars Brittany DeJesus and Briana DeJesus underwent plastic surgery by Dr. Michael Salzhauer, aka "Dr. Miami."
